Auto-detect markers (OCR)

Let Slate sweep a QuickTime for burn-in shot codes.

Quick start
  1. Open the Player with a QuickTime attached.
  2. Click Auto markers on the transport bar.
  3. Scrub to a frame with a clear burn-in and draw a crop zone around the shot code.
  4. Click Run sweep. Slate uses on-device OCR with an AI fallback for low-confidence frames.
  5. Review, then Auto-match to bind them to shots (or create new ones).

Why the crop zone matters

OCR quality drops sharply when it has to scan the whole frame. Cropping to just the burn-in region:

  • Speeds the sweep up 5–10×.
  • Eliminates false positives from onscreen action.
  • Uses fewer AI credits (the fallback only fires on low-confidence frames).

Thumbnails

The sweep captures a thumbnail per detected shot, so your shot list and exports have frames without a second pass.

Deduplication

Slate collapses consecutive frames that resolve to the same shot code. Distinct codes with a shared prefix (e.g. MECH_104_025_0300 vs MECH_104_025_0400) stay separate.
